Got out yesteday morning for an hour or so hunt and using my IDX and shooter coil because of searching the playground area in one of my favorite parks.

Got the clad coins, a Chuck-E-Cheese token, rid the park of a dangerous chainsaw laying around and... oh yes.... I almost forgot..a gold ring.
Last year other than some silver rings, all I dug were plated, so when I dug this ring yesterday I just threw it in with my coins, thinking it just another plated ring.
After getting it home and with a magnifying glass saw it was 10K, I was so excited I really didn't look at the ring other than I did notice it had a green stone.
I sent a pic of the ring to my brother and he replied if I tested the diamonds to see if they were real.

I asked myself 'What diamonds?", since I really didn't pay attention except for looking at the hallmark.
Sure enought there were 2 small clear stones, 1 on each side of the green stone. I tested them with my Mizar diamond tester and they showed with a green light "OK". After testing them for another 6 times, I test a few of my junk rings to check if my tester is working correcrly. testing my new found ring again, it tests real diamonds.

Sweet ring! I'm still waiting for diamonds...found gold & silver but no diamonds yet. Congrats!

Nice finds

You had me going on the chainsaw until I saw the picture... I was thinking how could someone lose a chainsaw.

I have some stones that probably needs testing to see if they are diamonds or not so I might look into getting one of the Mizar diamond testers... or maybe put it on my wish list.

thanks for sharing your story and your insights

Dimeman, maybe you could answer my question. I was just looking at RS MIZAR M24 GOLD TESTER TESTS 9K-24K PLATINUM, on the Internet. I noticed it comes with cleaning eraser, eraser pencil, and testing solution. Is this solution something you need to keep stocked up on for the tester to work properly? Or is that just to help clean the gold? I looked at the diamond tester also. Does it require a testing solution too? Thanks!

I believe the gold tester needs the solution to clean and prep the gold for testing.

The diamond tester doesn't need anything extra, no solution needed for it.

Thanks! The diamond tester costs a little less than the gold tester, both could be useful. Seems the diamond tester might be a big help if you should do a lot of beach hunting. Have you tried uncut diamonds?
