Clad cleaning project was a failure

I thought a rock tumbler would be good to clean my clad .
Well i was wrong and wasted my money.
I ended up putting the clad in toilet bowl cleaner which took
away the dirt but left the coins looking like copper.
These pennies are coming out of the ground in this desolved
condition.The mint may have saved money making this junk
but every one loses in the end.

Roger, Try using a 50/50 mix of Muriatic acid and water in a plastic bucket for your really junky clads. Gets the crust off nicer than toilet bowl cleaner. Give them a stir with a wood stick every once in awhile. Should work nicely for your clads. It'll clean them enough to get most of them through a CoinStar machine. Just irritates the service people. Beats wondering what the heck to do with em like making a sculpture or .......

I have a tumbler and it works fine for me. Here is the recipe that I use.

Aquarium gravel
aquarium sand
water
a small amount of liquid dish soap.
a splash of ammonia.

I tumble it for a minumum of 60 minutes, depending on how dirty they are. So far it is working great.

Been there done that Kinda cool to see the clerks look of bewilderment when you hand them a few copper colored dimes & nickels
