A few weeks ago I found my first class ring. I spent several days trying to contact the owner and after contacting four Marion County High schools I finally had success in finding the owner of the ring. We all love to find rings, get them in the scoop and get that adrenaline rush. All the rings I find I keep except when I feel that there is something special that can come from it. This was one of those rare times when the return made my day. Here is best part.

Mark graduated from High school in 1980. He was the Captain of his Alabama football team. His home was broken into on 22 August 1989 and this ring found in Miami was the only piece of jewelry ever recovered. The phone call and photos from Mark was all the payment I needed. It sure did put a smile on my face. Thanks Mark

You have to click on these photos. I tried to edit them but can't get them to show up straight.

Wow!.... this guy has a heck of a ride this past month, his team wins (again),.... AND he gets his long lost ring returned.
Great story, and good job by you!

Awesome return, I nominate for Honorable Mention. Kudos to you slider66 :notworthy:

I know the feeling of returning a class ring. I did once and it made me feel almost as good as the gal that got the ring back.

Great Return!!! Usually leads to more gold in the Scoop for you. Nice Work

That would be a rush for sure. Congratulations!!!!

Great return Honorable Mention for sure!!

Way to go. That's one more patient in this crazy sportasset.webp:thumb_up:

Thanks... It's to bad I couldn't put the phone call on the site. The call along with the story of theft in Alabama and the ring making its way to Florida was awesome. The photo of him at the school says it all.

Great return and may good karma follow you.

Still trying to narrow down my murphy county 64. You gotta love a good return.

Thanks for being a good ambassador for our hobby!

Slider66. Amazing story. I have great respect for guys like you. I have found a lot of amazing stuff but finding a ring and returning it to the owner has to be the best ever. Iv'e had the pleasure of doing it twice. Both where people I knew.

Lookingharder,

Thank you for the kind words. I posted another find where my friend and I returned a wedding band that had 83 years of marriage of father/mother passing their ring to the son. That was definitely my best return. Last year my friend and I went to Aruba. We were there for a week and returned 5 rings and a religious medallion to a boy who lost it and his family looked for two days to find. When I found the class ring there were two of our hobby enthusiast coming off the beach. My friend told them what I found and that I planned to return it. They laughed and thought I was crazy. I can tell you that when you see the look on peoples faces when they have lost an item that means the world to them, shed tears over it, then it is worth it to make a return. I could have sold the ring to a refinery but I can tell you that no amount of money would have given me as much happiness as seeing the looks on their faces and the thanks that was given for the the return. Do I keep lots of rings? Of course, we all do that. That is what makes this a great hobby. Having said that there is nothing to compare to bringing someone back to happiness after they are sad. So thank you.

A tip of the hat to you slider66.
You keep following your principles and you will never have regrets.
