I know you generally don't want to clean a coin, as it destroys much of the numismatic value of old coins. However, what about errors?

I found my first WAM cent, a 1998. It pretty nasty looking - don't know why I even checked it in the first place. A little cleaning would make it look much better, and considering it's only 15 years old I'm tempted. Anybody have any input on this?

Considering a 1998 WAM is not the gem of all errors and many are being found, I would personally have no problem cleaning it if it were mine. In the condition it is in you would probably be lucky to get 4 bucks, if you were looking at selling. Thus, clean that puppy up and enjoy your find.
