Decided to clean a couple of my finds since it's been snowing and raining for about 5 days now. A while back I read somewhere on here about eveporust for cleaning iron objects. Being that I don't have a electrolysis set up I decided to try it and it worked great! The bullet mold could have used another bath in it but compared to how it was it looks really good. The scissors cleaned up really nicely can even see the makers mark now. And the third item I believe is a cuflink, not positive though. Just soaked that in a vinegar lemon juice cocktail, turns out it's got a nice rose guilding!

Totally forgot got to take before pictures:dontknow:

Great job on the restoration! Those are awesome relics, that cuff link...is it gold? Or plated?...very nice...and that bullet mold..wow! How the mold itself held up so well and the craftsmanship of it...how they did so much with so little back then..thx for sharing...ddf

thank you! I'm pretty sure its plated but im not positive! And yes the mold is in pretty good condition the inside still has most of the blueing! I just with it wasn't broken, but atleast with t broken I can see the inside of it.

You did a good cleanup job, with good cleaners!

Some put olive oil on the metallics to keep them from the O2 in the atmosphere. Soak and wipe dry. They will stay "oil wet" on their surface if soaked well. Olive oil has a very slow decay. since it is a mono-unsaturated triglyceride. And if decayed over long periods of time, the fatty acid by-products are oily preservatives themselves.

Mineral oil soak will do the same, but mineral oil is molecularly stable at ambient conditions, and will not degrade/chemically change. Hope this may help, if needed.

I usually boil my iron relics in paraffin
But I also want to try the evaporust
Looks like it does a good job all right

Very nice finds and preservation.
