As others have recently alluded to, silver has been especially scarce recently (at least in my neck of the woods). Halves were skunky, so I got pennies. Pennies were disappointing, so I got dimes. Dimes sucked, so I got nickels, and it was at this point that the CRHing gods took pity and threw me a few bones.

I don't do nickels often because I've had rotten luck with them in the past, so it was very cool to have my first war nickel (42 P) and first 2009 (D) show up in the same roll. Later on I scored a 45 P. Also included below are a pair of 87 halves I found (one P, one D), and a Ukrainian 2 kopiyky (say that three times fast) mixed in with the dimes

Now that I've bored you with those banalities, here is the possible clipped planchet ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1500065401.272987.webp

I don't see any Blakesley on it, but there there does appear to be rounding around the clip and slight metal flow toward it. The pics below were taken through my 7x Hastings triplet

As always, your feedback is much appreciated. Do you think it's the real deal?

I've run into a few of them, mostly they've been run over cars but it doesn't show that type of wear. Looks real to me! Wait until enamel comes along he's the expert of these types of things.

I agree with BuffaloHunter

not a crush job--- the rim would still show------------

no rim equals= CLIP :laughing7:
Blakesley is opposite the clip, your photo needs to show the full coin, both sides. value is about $2+

You got the deal that is real......Congrats!!!!

I am aware that Blakesley occurs opposite the clip, hence the picture of the complete obverse. Here is the full reverse ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1500084436.923760.webp

I believe this to be genuine. There's just enough metal to fill the void that there's no Blakesley effect.

Thanks for all the feedback, I'm convinced it's genuine. I know it's very minor, but it's also my first clipped planchet so I'm excited

This is typical of most clipped planchettes. Very minor. Most of mine are no larger that this. Now that you know what to look for, you may begin to notice more. Enjoy.

Time for more coffee.
