we should do this, contact some of the others. I'll officate i got some rules figured out allready.

Now this will have to be an honored based hunt. All who want to enter can. There is no fee at all. You get to provide any coins rolls you want, as well as the number of rolls is up to the hunter. Pennies, nickles, dimes, quarters, halves, and dollars, are the catagories. One extra catagory is the odd find catagory. Each division winner is based on oldest coin, as well as rarity factor. The hunt will take place in the coin roll section, on Saturday and Sunday this weekend (New Years weekend). I'll post a New thread on Saturday for the hunt. That is where you post your finds. Pictures would be the best, but not everyone owns cameras. If you get a good one share it with us if you are able. Winner can be declared the Champion Coin Roll hunter for the month. We'll give it a try and see how the first hunt goes.

Well, I'm almost stocked up. I've got $300 in halves ready to be searched and tomorrow I'm bringing home $40 in nickels. Looks like pennies will have to wait till next month.

We lost some posts yesterday, but this will start tomarrow. One member mentioned a limit on the amount of Dollar value per coin type. We were going to give suggestions on that question but when the system went down, that was one of the lost posts. So maybe the dollar limit will have to be for the second one.

I guess when it comes to the total one is exchanging for rolls to search, anyone could end up with a roll with a real oldie. $750 is a lot of money for coins, Let us know if you are going to get thru them all. Good luck searching!

I'm looking forward to this.

I obviously don't have as much money or time as some of you folks (I'm evnious), but I picked up what the bank had in halves ($90) and $20 in nickels. (although I might just have to stop on the way home from work and grab another $20 in nickels.

How are the rest of you feeling - I'm going crazy not ripping into these rolls already!!! I think I'll be up early Saturday morning!!!

I know what you mean urbss! I had to hide the halves just so they'd be "out of sight, out of mind." They rarely last an hour after I get home before they're torn open. Patience... :D

i go through 250ish a day when i can. i only got a box of dimes and a box of pennies today. the bank was tapped out - brinks apparently takes the holidays off. ive got family in today and tomorrow, and going to the gf's family's for new y ears day. So i may not get to do any searching til monday - just have to see how it goes!

I did pick up $16 in loose halves today (all the bank had). The baggie had 2x 1967's. I couldnt resist the see through bag. Had to look at the rims!

I'll post the contest tonight! So hang on a little longer. ;) Each domination will be a seperate division. I assume everyone is using rolls from a bank, and not a roll of buffalos bought off ebay! ;D We never did state common circulation rolls, but this was the intention. After we see how this one goes we can possibly plan a second hunt.

Hi,

I wish the folks at the banks in Eugene were nicer......here's a paraphrase of a recent conversation I had at Liberty Bank:

Me: Hello, I'd like to buy $50 worth of dimes, please.

They: Do you have an account here?

Me: No, I'm just trying to buy some dimes.

They: We don't do that.

Me: Oh. Why not?

They: We are here to serve people who have accounts.

Me: Oh, so if I get an account, can I do it?

They: No.

Me: But you just told me if I had an account, I could do it.

They: No, I didn't say that. I said you couldn't do it because you didn't have an account.

Me: But that's what I said you said.

They: No, even if you had an account, you couldn't do it, because if we did it for you, we would have to do it for everyone.

Me: So what you're saying is, it does me no good to have an account here.

They: That's right, if all you want to do is buy rolls of coins.

Me: So how does anyone ever get $50 worth of dimes, according to your policy?

They: They don't, not here.

Fortunately I belong to a couple of nice credit unions, but even then, one of the tellers the other day said, "if you're looking for old coins, why don't you just go to the coin store?" I explained that things there cost at least 7 times face value, and I was willing to spend my own time searching; in fact, I thought it was fun! It's like a treasure hunt, or a fishing expedition; you never know what you might come up with. She just rolled her eyes and gave me minimum service, making it very clear she resented what she considered was a waste of her time. Now I feel a little guilty even going in there and taking her "precious" time or making others wait in line while I just try to buy rolls of coins. What's even worse is trying to turn them in. I bring in a big coffee can of coins, and I see other people sigh because they know this is going to take a while. Anyway, I'm not giving up, but as I said in the beginning, I just wish folks in Eugene-Springfield Oregon were a bit more friendly.

Last summer I went into a bank here in Ohio and I asked to buy rolls of pennies and they asked me if I had an account and I said no I do not. The bank teller said that they only sell rolls of coins to their customers, which I really found insulting.

The bank that I have three different accounts at, tells me that they don't have rolls of coins to purchase. They don't keep them in the safe, and only get limited amounts of rolled coins from the customers. Since my bank is not helpful in selling me rolls of coins I make sure that once I buy coins from other banks that I deposit them into my account. The tellers hate to see me with the boxes of coins.

I did find a very friendly bank just a few minutes from my home and the teller was happy to sell me as many rolls of coins as I wanted. She had to scratch out the account number and name of the person that deposited them, but she wasn't put out by it at all. I offered to help scratch out the information as well. She did ask me if I was going to search the coin rolls and I said yes I love doing that, you never know what you might find. She smiled and wished me luck, she is the BEST teller I have ever had the pleasure of buying coins from. :)

Have you tried the merchant tellers in these banks? Sometimes you have to call ahead but they'll supply you with as many coins as you want. The Bank of America I go to always has boxes and boxes of rolled coins for its merchant customers.

This week when i got some nickle rolls. I happened to get in the merchant teller line, she had to go to the back and came out with a box with $100 worth.
