Detector(s) used
XP Deus with HF coils, Minelab Equinox 800
I am new to metal detecting and have been looking at these two machines. I will mostly be coin hunting around old home sites and maybe occasionally at the beach. Which one would you recommend?

I don't know exacly, il get my new Garrett EuroAce 350 in the weekend, so if i like the coin settings, il send you an PM.

Okay, Thanks

I havent used either but I do know that the coin, aster gt has ground balance which is very important. I hope to hear what people say who have used both.

Anyone else have experience with these detectors?

I would definitely buy one with an automatic or manual ground balance. You might be interested in trying to buy a used Fisher F4, with the DD coil. Never used it, but I hear that it is a great starter machine.

Im hoping that no one bashes the coinmaster gt seeing I just bought one. Haven't had a chance to take it out yet so I don't know how it stacks up.

I was going to buy a Coinmaster, but I just didn't like the fact that it didn't have VDI numbers. So I just forked out some extra money and bought a Teknetics Omega 8000. I should get it today.

Vdi numbers?
Numbers on the screen of the detector that tell about the size and conductivity of the metal in the ground.
Visual display indicator is what it stands for, I believe.

Oh ok. Yeah it only gives the approx idea of what it is I.E. dime nickel, etc.

The coin master gt does has VDI, i am also new to detecting and recently bought a coinmaster GT. I think it's a great beginner machine.

Go to the whites or garrets brand forum here at treasure net most likely someone asked the same question earlier. you can get good buyers opinions there.

Well I've had 2 Garretts, the last being an Ace 250, and I did not like either. Basically I did not like how the tones went all over the place on signals that did not fit a neat category. In general I did not find either machine to be all that accurate.

I do have a Coinmaster, though not the GT. It has good depth and the display is more stable than the Ace. Battery life is also better than the Ace. The only thing bad is the arm cup is weaker than I prefer--White's sent me a free replacement when I broke mine.

I finally got out with my md (coinmaster). It is pretty neat. It even knew the difference between a clad penny and a copper one. I ended up finding 5 coins in about an hour and also an unknown item (see other post)
