I had to stop by the grocery store today, near where my bank is located.

So I walked in, and sitting on the lip of the reject tray was a VERY corroded Lincoln memorial cent. But that is not what I am posting about lol.

I glanced at the floor in front of the Coinstar machine, and found this. I have no idea what it is, where it came from, or even when it was minted, as there is no date on it.

If this belongs in the coin or whatsit forum, Jeff, feel free to move it.
But of course, this is my main hangout at TN, and so I post it here.

oh theres a date on it but its in ----?--- language (looks kinda chinese to me) --- Ivan

Cool fine! Some of those foreign coins can be a bear to identify. GMan was quick to identify it. It would have taken me a week of research to identify that coin.

Thanks for the info.

The reality of what it is, is even more bizarre than not knowing.

What in the heck is an Ethipian 5 cent piece doing on the floor of the grocery store here??

Oh well. It gets tossed in with my foreign coin collection.

the lion of judah and the armed warrior --- makes sense --- Ivan

Hmmm so that is what the imagery means. Yeah it does make sense, as Jews have lived in Ethiopia since the first Millenium B.C., and they claim to have the final resting place of the Ark of The Covenenant at Axum.
:)

Nice find MF...neat looking coin.
