Coinstar FYI - Hints and tips

Working as a cashier has its perks, especially when you are less than 5 ft from a coinstar. LOL

Here's a tip just in case anyone's interested.

Tell the cashier or the manager that there is a coin stuck in the machine. More often than not they will open the machine up. Normally they just call me to fix it since I am always there and I know the access code. But under the feeder wheel in the machine is where the big coins go. Like Ike's Morgans, rejects go there. I have found more than one silver bit in there. Also check the door if the cashier will let you. There is normally a storage plastic bin for holding the coinstar cleaners. That's usually where we dump the change that didn't get rejected and didn't go through the machine. Coinstar usually takes this stuff but I bet since alot of people here are good bargainers, they can get it for a song from whereever they are. I have gotten 10 dollars in Ike's, another 8 dollars in casino metal tokens which are very sellable now and at least 4 silvers working this way.

Is there an indicator light, or something on the display screen that would indicate a problem with the machine....? Would they look for something like that if I claim there is a coin stuck..?

usually a screen will pop up saying it won't take any more money but somethings if you send something through like an ike, it makes a lot of noise. More often than not you get a cashier who doesn't know the coinstar that well and it gives you the needed edge to check those places. Like checking the reject bin in the front of the machine. You would be surprised that there are a lot of folks who still don't check those. Lucky for those of us who check them.

I put most all my dirty coins in there because i us it,not save it.No bank account,so the bank won't help me.And i put all my dirty money in the city bus to get a free ride to find more dirty money to put in the coinstar to get clean cash.Works great for me.
