Nice finds Scolino!
What Scolino didn't mention - because he's a man of few words - is that he was up in northern New Jersey yesterday visiting me, and we detected together at 3 different locations in my general area. Two locations were new permissions and the 3rd was a place I'd been to before.
Scolino found the highlight of the day with that 1787 Jersey Copper. Don H. the Jersey Copper expert tells us it's a Meris 45-e, only the 5th in his long-term study.
I did find a few cool things of my own, and Scolino doesn't mind me hijacking the thread to add them here:
- 1959 Lesney Land Rover toy car
- mid-1800s sportsman's 2-piece button with a bird (maybe pheasant?)
- gold treble gilt button from LH&Scovil that dates to between 1811 and 1827 (Scovil only has one "L" on the button, but later spellings have two "L's") (The string is from a tag I attached to the button)
The only coins I found were newer: three wheat cents (but early ones: 1911, 1918, 1920), three Zincolns, three dimes, three quarters.
Great day with Scolino! (And that guy can go all day; I was done by mid afternoon and he wanted to hit one more spot!)
