I dug the bowl to this handle last week and I wasn't very confident that I would find the handle. Well, I found it! The hallmarks were a bit tricky, but I nailed it down. The lion makes it London .925 silver. The date code "G" puts it 1802. The bust of King George III also puts it in that date range and the makers mark is legible. The spoon was made by Peter, Anne and William Bateman in 1802.

So cool to find it and get that ID!

Very nice find and great research! :occasion14:

There was a very well known silversmith named Hester Bateman in colonial America , I wonder if there is a direct relationship ? Nice find !

Yes, Hester is the mother of Peter and Ann Bateman. William was the son of Jonathan and Ann

Very sweet piece of colonial treasure mate! Congrats to you!

I clearly had my facts wrong about Hester , she was in fact English , rather than American.

Lol yeah they were English silversmiths out of London

That's an amazing find! It's been on my bucket list for awhile now ;)
