It was a Special Issue,

Released In Conjunction with the Expo

and Yes it was Legal Tender.

the STORY :

they were Sold for $1.00 apiece at the Expo. in Chicago.
most were never sold and eventually released into Circulation
at Face Value.

Mintage

950,000 1892's
1,550,405 1893's

Thanks Jeff. I don't know all that much about old coins. I saw one listed for $5.50 on ebay. Guess they aren't very rare. 1.5 million was a lot of coins back then I guess. Today if there were only 1.5 million of anything minted, it would be different. Am I wrong?

Thanks.

No, your pretty much correct blurr.

today they mint some coins in the billions.

The fact they are a special issue their not exactly commom knowledge, But that's the Extent.

Unless You find one of the MS-65's (Mint State 65)
there were 100 Brilliant Proofs Minted. in each date.
those average $800.00 a piece.

they need to be at least ALMOST UNCIRCULATED-50 to be worth $15.00
