I suppose it's just natural to be expected to be interested in the same things as your father and older brothers. And being outside was nice. Fishing, hunting pheasants, they are alright. But I was just a kid, I didn't know better, all I knew was I was different. Why couldn't they see it? I hated being "trapped" on a boat, I always asked to shore fish. Didn't that make 'em wonder? And what about the times I'd lose my bait while scavenging the banks for artifacts from previous anglers! Or the time I was climbing a tree to get at those old lures and had my rod literally stolen by some fish! And only then becoming interested in finding my rod, because suddenly it was lost! Is it that hard to see I was just a little...different, than them? I'm still half convinced that THE ice fishing trip was to make a real "man" of me. Dam them!

And when I'd lag behind to look at the old stuff in a barn instead of following them into the fields to hunt? And they'd compliment me for being a good hunting dog because I'd track through the worst weeds...HA, who cared about the birds, I'd already learned that was where the lost stuff was! I wasn't a bad shot, when a pheasant got up, I was looking at the ground.

So I married into a family like mine. And I continued to live the lie until 23 years later when my wife suddenly asked for a divorce. Had she found the "Lost Treasure" magazines underneath the bed?

Not too long ago, I met and married my second wife. And I told her my dirty little fantasies about metal detecting, and digging for rocks, and antiques, and yes I even like garage sales! And much to my surprise, she's "into it" as well! In fact, she can sit in a creek and screen for rocks all day and be just as thrilled as I!

So, that's it, I'm out. I am a treasure hunter! Brother's, go fishing...and maybe sometimes I'll join you...but I've got dirt to dig today!

Big Dan, that's an awesome story. thanks i needed that.

I can relate, when the rabbit would come running by, (chased by beagles), more than likely my shotgun was lying on the ground while I looked for Indian Arrowheads. :icon_scratch:
