Compadre vs. Silver uMax

I am debating between these two as my first detector and want input from fellow Tesoro users....which is better suited as a first detector and why (other than price).

dpitt8 ,

I see the difference being the Compadre is not upgradable down the road by adding an optional coil. The Silver uMax has interchangeable coils. I would recommend you go with the Compadre and if you like detecting, upgrade to a more professional detector in the future. Joe

I like the Silver Umax as it has a larger coil and other coil options. The ability to change sensitivity comes in very handy. It is a very versitle and capable detector that will last you for some time and is good for relics or coinshooting. :coffee2:

i am a tesoro dealer and have field tested each . For the price the silver umax is excellant and simple my grandaughter grabs one when we go hunting. i have dug quarter at 6 inches

I'd get the Silver. If you like detecting, it is a better more versatile machine, and you may not want or need to upgrade soon. If you don't like detecting, it will resell at a better value.
