Re: Concave metal disc

It is a expansion plug, some people call them freeze plugs. It is used on engines and heads to fill in holes so that if the engine freezes, instead of cracking it, it pushes these out. Occasionally the rust out and causes leaks.

I saw the freeze plugs on my V6 Dakota block when I had them changed, and they were thinner, larger, and had a flange around the edge. :dontknow: Different types I suppose?

It is a freeze plug. Depending on the engine, the smaller ones were used on the ends of the block and sometimes on the heads. Tony
