Hello to all and thanks in advance for your time, help, and feedback. I sincerely appreciate it. I scored these at a garage sale on Sat. They are authentic and original from that time period. The seller indicated to me that they were passed on from generation to generation in his family. I believe that they have a little bit of value. Unfortunately, the owner took them to get them framed, but the framer did not have the common sense to not glue the middle part. I'm able to pull back from all sides, but I encounter resistance in the middle part. I was thinking of taking them to a currency professional, but wanted to ask here for advise first. Thank you all, I appreciate it.

Hope they are real. In the 60's during the centennial for the Unpleasantness between the States, you got replica Confederate bills at every tourist trap. Good luck.

What makes you believe they are authentic? Hopefully not just the story. Reproductions have been made for at least 60 years. People's minds sometimes get a little confused and they just fill in the blanks with a nice story.

When it's my money, the seller's representations regarding an item's authenticity is taken with a grain of salt.
I hope you received a guarantee from the seller to repurchase the item if it proves not to be authentic.
OR.. you feel the dealwas OK notwithstanding.
I'd get the items authenticated by a profession source.
Don.......

Counterfeits have existed since the Confederacy issued paper currency. Replicas have abounded since the 1960s. If authentic, a good currency conservator should be able to detach the notes from the display.

Time for more coffee.

I sure hope they are authentic, but they all look perhaps a bit too crisp.

I would think they are not real.... The ink used to sign looks too good, look at some real examples online and you'll start to see. But I am not 100% sure.

I believe they are reproductions. According to the site http://oldcurrencyvalues.com/1864_500_confederate_bill/:

"If the serial number of your note is 393, 9229, 14682, 16599, 16760, 18278, 18935, 19834, 21130, 26326, 26949, 33546, 36776, 67935, or 82210 then what you have is a reproduction with no collector value. Please do not contact us if you have a reproduction."

If you look at the $500 bill, it has the serial number 18278.

I can't see enough of the rest of the bills to tell, but the 5, 10, 20, and 100 all look like the sets you can buy for a few dollars.

Hope you didn't pay much for them is all I can say.

Thanks to all for the feedback and help. Your link above clarifies it. Great lesson. I paid a $1 for each set. I may be new to currency, but I'm not dumb. :) Thanks again.

Ah, heck. For a buck a piece I probably would have popped for them too - can't even get a bottle of soda for a dollar anymore. If anything, they are still neat to look at.

Any advice on these? My dad and I recently thought to see what else was in the frame wanted to make sure any picking want for to water damage and there were more on the backside as of they were hidden there on purpose.
