Congrats on the shell! Don't know if it is Confederate or Union, but I'm sure you will have your answer soon. can't wait to see that baby cleaned up.

Nice relic saves! Congrats!
I'm still looking for a V nickel.

Your not the only one that hates poison ivy!

Found paper in the fuse!

Killer finds! the shell kinda strikes me as being a parrot. I'm no expert, maybe post it on what is it, and Cannon ball guy can nail it down for you!

Looks like a C.S Parrot shell?Killer find,nice fuse too!,like mr.b said ,looks like a job for the Cannonballguy-HH

Measured at about 3 inches wide , 8 ½ long

really nice shell, congrats on all of it. the poison ivy and oak don't bother me at all, but it puts the wife in the hospital regardless of the shots

Oh man - SUPER fine on all of it. Is the thin ring (sabot) at the back of the shell lead or brass?

I believe it's brass, it doesn't have any white patina, patina looks similar to the fuse on top.

Cool stuff, who is your monkey friend?

Yea lol my Monkey friend, my look out hehe....not easy finding somebody to render this shell unexplodable. And I'm not doing it ! Lol

Nice going on the find, and a wise idea of having somebody to make it safe.

Every time I view a find like this my gut gets tight thinking of what could happen, then again my track record for things that go boom isn't the best.

What kind of shape is the nickel in can't see it from the pic....

I will get it cleaned with water for now the best I can, it's all in really good shape, it was just covered in dirt, the bottom part is just alittle out of round but for the most part it looks good.

nice finds. it is super tough finding a complete shell and yours is a CS Read shell to boot! I once found half of one of those so I would be thrilled to find a complete one. congrats. Several of the top Civil War relic dealers will offer a 'render safe' service for a nominal fee. your shell is safe because the powder has been exposed to the elements. but just to be extra sure I would have the fuze hole drilled out and have the cavity flushed out. super finds and congrats!

Interesting danimal03, I thought it might be a Read shell cause the fuse kinda stuck above the nose. Thanks for the input!

You don't have to send it anywhere to get it rendered safe, it is probably safe just because it was buried and the innards got all wet over time. If it is open through the fuse hole just flush it with hot water, I assure you it will not explode afterwards. It is a very cool find!!

Absolutely killer find! Congratulations.
