Relic Hunting
I went out looking for arrowheads for awhile and found the two in the pictures along with the williams cleaner. Then I moved to another spot I believe to be a confederate campsite and decided to bring out the metal detector. I hunted for alittle while with no luck and then found the buckle part that the snake went through. I was cleaning the dirt off of it and noticed something in the ring and didnt know what it was it but I knew it wasnt dirt so I put it in my pocket. two steps later I get a strong signal and look down and see the snake part lying on top of the ground I picked it up and saw one head was missing. My first snake buckle! I hunted for alittle while longer and decided to call it a day. I got back to the house and clean my finds off and reach into my pocket to get the piece I wasnt sure what it was in the field. I take a better look at it and realize its the other head I thought was missing from the buckle. Does anyone think the round brass piece is a part of a spur? It is the size of a penny.

Now that is one cool find for sure

Now there is something to display.

Looks like part of a spur to me, I would go back to that site!

Interesting find, congrats :icon_thumright:

Sweet snake buckle, would love to find one of those.

Not sure how many times we have debated this one on Tnet, but they are as likely to be non-CW as being CW period. Still a cool find which most likely pre-dates your possible camp.

Thanks for the comments I really appreciate it. I am going back to that spot today to try to find some more history. HH

I had quite a few snake/bird buckles but never had the loop from either side. I wonder if the other side is nearby?

Very cool finds for sure, I don't think it's a part of a spur, more likely part of a toy or clock maybe JMHO> HH

Sometimes finding stuff like the buckle are better than finding a coin...Sometimes. Good find.

That is a pretty cool find indeed.

Hit that site some more!

Looks pretty close to being the rowel from a spur. Although it is possible to be a part from a child's toy too.

Or that too, the possibilities are endless. I've showed horses all my life so a rowel was my first guess.

Great find, can't wait to see what else comes out of that site. WTG!
