Home built in 1911. Question Would you try the baking soda trick on the V nickel or just leave it alone. The next to last item says WIRZ INC CHESTER PA. I guess maybe from perfume bottle. Can't make out what it says on the good luck token. Fun times!

Excellent finds john!

Nice finds. I always like finding those good luck tokens....especially when you can make out the names on them. Congrats!

The next to last item says WIRZ INC CHESTER PA.

Hello John,

Nice assortment of finds, sir, I found this on Wirz:

"The A.H. Wirz Company was founded by August Herman Wirz in 1836 in Philadelphia.
In 1914 the company moved to Chester.

The A.H. Wirz Company manufactured tubes for toothpaste and ointments. In more recent years it became a division of Teledyne and was known as Teledyn Wirz. The business closed about 1999..." Old Chester, PA: Business: A.H. Wirz

I was thinking wrong with the baking soda. It's the Worcestershire sauce thing. Any suggestions I know the nickel is not in good shape but its my first. I'd love to be able to see the V but I guess that may not be possible.

Never done that but I'll google it and give it a try

First I'm impressed that anybody can spell Worcestershire , second - if you really want to see the V go ahead - I did it on a crusty shield nickel
it definitely allowed me to see some features but it does sort of acid etch the coin (micro sand blasted matte finish ).

I found one of those good luck tokens a few weeks ago found out it was from a old carnival machine :) here is the info

-These "lucky pocket pieces" were from machines often found at carnivals - you put a quarter in and dialed in what you wanted to say, a character at a time, then when you were done, it dropped out. I think somebody has posted pics of an example of one type of machine in the archives. These are very prone to errors as there was no backspace key on the machine - I think the address on this one may be incorrect as my 1908 Postal Street Guide does not show a Murcer St. - it maybe should be Mercer St. These machines are still around, but they are not as prevalent as they once were.

Lol. I had to try several times to get spell check to figure out what I was trying to say.

Nice finds, I like the ring!
