Cool old padlock - Anybody know how old?

Was able to get a short hunt in after work along a small portion of a disused streetcar line. There's a portion that used to go through a wooded area along the Potomac River. I think the line stopped running in the 50s or 60s.
Anyhow, found this heavy old padlock. It's marked TRADEMARK PAOWNYC on the little fob (?) part and THE OM EDWARDS CO SYRACUSE NY USA on the top part.
Anybody know the age?

Also spent a few minutes at a schoolyard and only found quarters. THAT's never happened before.

Thanks for looking

Anybody have a tip on how to get the fob loosened up so I can see the keyhole?

Not really sure I could help you on your fob problem but I love the lock! Very interesting...very cool! Congrats

that is one cool looking lock.try soaking it in olive oil for a couple of days..if it doesn't slide open take a piece of wood and tap on it.keep doing it but not to hard. if that don't work leave it alone..that's what i would do..HH
OWG...

Cool find. I love old padlocks.

I am not sure if people will agree but penatrating oil or wd40 should work. I dont know if it will hurt the lock but here on the farm those 2 fix alot of things.

Got the fob open by tapping on it with a knife handle gently for a while. Cleaned up pretty nice, too! The rusty blob at the bottom is where a chain would have been attached

Nope. although it took me a while to realize. Noticed the shakle had some movement when I was cleaning it, gave it a tug, and out it popped.
