well my very first dig was a large copper on Sat., and I had just recently read someone posting about the 'Kiss of Death', after their 1st find of the day. This coin turned out to be the only one of the day.

Anyway, I was happy to see a 1800's large copper in the hole. It was a perfect day to hunt and possibly the last one like it this year.
The coin turned out to be a Coronet Head Cent with no date (1816-1839).
Today was very cold and I just discovered a new root beer - so I added the bottle top as a reminder of the weather just around the corner. Plus it is better than Hires or Stewart's IMO. ha, why wouldn't it be with a name like Frostie (since 1939)? L

That shell is marked S & B, 5.56 X 45, 19 all by itself. I was wondering if the 19 stood for 1919 or something else if anybody know what it means and what caliber? Thanks for reading! HH!

Nice!!!! Congrats!!!!

thanks RJ!

Looks like can't be 1919 cartridge.
"The 5.56×45mm NATO (official NATO nomenclature 5.56 NATO, but often pronounced "five-five-six") is a rimless bottlenecked intermediate cartridge family developed in the late 1970s in Belgium by FN Herstal.[5] It consists of the SS109, L110, and SS111 cartridges. On 28 October 1980 under STANAG 4172 it was standardized as the second standard service rifle cartridge for NATO forces as well as many non-NATO countries.[6][7][5] Though they are not entirely identical, the 5.56×45mm NATO cartridge family was derived from and is dimensionally similar to the .223 Remington cartridge designed by Remington Arms in the early 1960s." Wikipedia

FN Herstal makes many military weapons.

Very nice !

Very nice !
Thanks!
yeah any day you are digging 183-206 year old coins is a good day!

At least 183 years old if minted last year coin was made. :)

Good site for large coppers, photos and approx. values.

And the S & B is for the manufacturer Sellier & Bellot

Great find! If you like root beer, find some IBC. It is the best, hands down.
