I found this butterfly brooch in a thrift store yesterday. I don't know much about jewelry - and still less about costume jewelry - but it struck me as a nice piece with a lot of attention to detail. The cabochon isn't glass but softer and warmer, and not plastic either, but I doubt it could be amber, perhaps some kind of resin? The stones are rhinestones, I suppose. It has a maker's mark which at first I thought was "LP" but when I photographed it, it looks like "LIP" and a google search hasn't assisted me in determining who that might be.
