I do feel good about heading eastbound on a Friday on this I-70 road. Yesterday late afternoon I came across Utah on Hwy 40 and went through Canyon Pintado on CO Hwy 139. I didn't stop to see any of the ancient archaeological sites along the road, left by the Fremont culture and later some by the Piute's, but did take a moment to sit at the top of Douglas pass and enjoy the steady cool breeze up there. Down below is the Grand Valley of the Colorado river and Grand Junction were I called it quits for the night. This morning it was I-70 all the way home and at 11:AM the place was already jamming up on the westbound side and a helicopter landed on the overpass at Bakersville. Got a hand it to that pilot on successfully dropping that down in a narrow canyon to help someone in need on a narrow bridge.

I use to drive from Grand Junction to Vail Monday thru Friday for 8 years to this day people do not know how I did that. To bad you could not stop at Pintado it is a very interesting place.

Cool pictures. I70 sure looks a lot better there than it does in WPA, my old stomping grounds.

I know, I've poked around there quite a few times with the 20 plus years I've been driving the Western States peddling mining supplies. It was hot one in the canyon, so I thought I'd go for a hike around there the next time I'm in the area, but the temps on top of Douglas pass where very pleasant. I knew down below in GJ it was surely going to be a hot one, but I cranked the AC up at the super 8, walked to Taco Bell and ate it as I watched something on TV and slept really well after a long drive from Elko Nevada. Over the years I've sure enjoyed all of this travel, but here recently it's getting to be sometimes a struggle to get into the get going mood anymore.

Pintado would diffidently be a place to stop at starting in September you are very right way to hot this time of year.I worked in a couple of gold mines here and there what ever happened up at Climax are they up and running know I've never heard to much about it.

Yeah the fall season up around Rangeley is rather nice and it's also a great time to visit dinosaur park. Climax and Henderson are both working. Tuesday before last I was underground at Henderson with one of the contractors working up there to see how a bolter bit would do. Both places are still hiring. Many of the long time employees have retired recently, so they have a need for some positions open. These days not many younger folks are looking to work in a mine. I guess I can't blame them when you could can get a job at Google and work in your pajamas, plus have nap time and make mid six figures.

It is a said state these days all they want to do is smoke the green and play video games and live off mom and dad to. What I liked best about the mine was the bonuses and staying in the man camp I remember I went to to town to open a checking account at the bank and they took one look at me. Sir with this bank you have to have a 100 dollars to open a checking account and I had been at the camp for about 6 months. I threw down my pay checks well this will probably do it about $55,000 sir can we get you some coffee and donuts come over here and sit down man did the guys get a laugh when I got back to camp and told them that.I also liked going down to the car lot to by a truck sir how will you pay for the new truck cash what come in side lets get you something to drink.I am glad to here that Henderson and Climax are up and running we need more mines going in Colorado good for are economy mining has come a long way in technology these days.
