CRHing in Canada Aye

I just got back from rescue training in Canada. I finally was able to stop by one bank yesterday. I asked the teller if they had any American half dollars. I found out 2 things while there:
A. The teller’s said they don’t get many foreign (American coins) and they didn’t have any in the vault
B. The tellers are very friendly (and good looking too).
It never hurts to ask.
I did come home with a Canuk Looney, a dime and a few pennies.

Did you ask about Canadian halves? 67-68 are 50% silver and 37-67 are 80% silver (I think this info is correct). I wonder if Canadian CRHers are searching halves there the way we do here.

I didn't ask about them. Wish I had of now. Of course I would have been stuck with some Canada change.

Oh come on Bro. You know how to get rid of the coins you find. Roll them, take them to the bank. "What?? Canadian?? I didn't know..........""" :P

As of yesterday the Canada dollar is worth more then the us dollar.

Oh yea, that's what all those "foreigners" were talking about up there. It's only on paper. When their dollar was way below ours, the retailers had the prices jacked up. now that their dollar is even, their prices are still high. You can buy the same things in the good ol USA cheaper than in Canada. One price comparison in the newspaper was a car that cost $39,000 in Canada was $30,000 in the states. Don't let the Dollar for Dollar fool you.

I live just a couple short hours from Canada. Yesterday I was at an outlet mall that was jam packed with Canadians. While we would see several cars in the parking lot from B.C., yesterday I wouldn't be exaggerating if I were to say about 20-25% were from B.C.

I love it. Let's take all there money...............LOL

I have a friend who CRH's in Ontario. He tells me half dollars (50 cent pieces up there) are impossible to find at banks, he's only found a few loose ones. Tellers won't order them for him. I'd have to say I agree. I tried asking for them at a bank in BC and was told, "they don't come like that."

Thanks for the reply kestrelia. It's nice to know that maybe I didn't miss a shot at some silver.

i have coin hunted in canada back in the mid 90's.seemed like the best pickens were right along the border.up at st sault marie.i ke[t asking for canada halves ,and got quite a few.but no silver.i decided to get myself some quarters to go thru.figured if i couldnt find any good halfs i would at least make a few sets of the province coins.canada did the state quarter thing first.and there are the so called mountie commem quarters of 1973 to look for.imagine my surprise to get mixed us and canada quarters.i went to royal and boatmans bank and bought all the quarters they would sell me.paying in canadian paper.i found somany u s coins that i had to turn them in for canadian a second time in order to have enough spendable canada cash to travel.the exchange was low then about 69 cents can to th us dollar.i was traveling w about 1200 us cash and turned it over four or five times.even losing some by converting back to canada at crummy rate i was able to pay for entire trip by crhing.i came back to the usa w about 7 or 8 hundred in quarters.the customs guy looked at me kind of funny and i mumbled something about casino and they let me in.ha.i always thought id go up dere an try it again but never did.u could try this u never know.
