Crooked Lake FL photo identification

I found two photos of Crooked Lake FL on the Florida memory project website and need help identifying something in the background. Both photos are from the 1920s and have a series of huge poles in the water. I can't imagine why they would need something that tall out in the lake. Any idea what and where these poles are on the lake?

I grew up in Florida and I never heard of Crooked Lake, Fl.

It is in the center of Florida next to Babson Park. About an hour south of Orlando.

 

[Paleopilot]

Looks like a mooring pylon for a zeppelin or dirigible. It's the right era.
