Well folks ive been hunting this spot for about two months now and have been finding some purdy cool items but never thought I would have pulled this baby out of the dirt...Im purdy sure its real but I see that there are alot of fakes how can I tell for sure and how much do I need to clean it??

Looks good to me! There were a couple on here not long ago that made banner, I think they were relevant to the army of Tennessee? They had the black back like yours. I wouldn't do any cleaning other than tooth picking the remaining dirt away. (I don't use water)... Congrats!

It is REAL, it is RARE, it is simply FANTASTIC!! I voted banner!! I wouldn't do more to it than clean it with a toothbrush and warm soapy water. I would not try to return it to a shiny state, the deep patina is gorgeous. SUPERB FIND!!!

If you dug it in a site you have been digging CW relics there should be no reason to doubt it brother. You just pulled the Holy Grail of CW relics out my friend. Congrats sounds lame for such a find. Banner worthy beyond a doubt. Getting my Vote.

Thank you all I was shocked....My first glance was of the backside I knew it was a buckle I just held it in my hand for about ten minutes to scared to look at the front my girlfriend was looking at me like I was crazy wandering what I was doing..I said I think I may have just found a Civil War buckle but I didnt wanna look yet just give me a minute never would have dreamed it had a CS on the front..I must say it will just leave you speechless.....
