I'm sure this varies by locale, but are the curb strips considered part of the property they're in front of? I mean, I'm pretty sure in most places the sidewalk is considered "public property" but homeowners still must maintain them or face a fine or civil lawsuit. So that said, do you ask before you MD each strip, or do you just start at the top of the street and work your way down? lol...
