it is riveted and has square nut or two holding it together….

No churches but i did find a really big crusty spoon bowl next to it, rotted and bent. Thanks….perhaps we’ll never know.

Well... definitely a piece of rusted iron! I lean toward Mud Hut's answer, it seems to be more of a fire or fireplace hanger.
