Penny,

I could be wrong but it appears to be petrified mud complete with sea creature fossils from a sea floor! I have seen similar specimens like those and even owned some at one time that came with some Crinoid fossils I once owned.

Limestone w/fossilized corrals. Sorta cool but quite common.

It does look that there is some pyrite in it. That is fairly uncommon but does occur with fossil deposits. Its a nice piece. If you can find someone to polish it carefully it will really pop out I think. :)

Gunsil's the one to ask about polishing- does a lot of fine lapidary work. He's a busy guy, but you can always ask...

I used to swim Michigan by the Zion Nuke power plant. Always wondered why no one would go with me. Anyway that place is loaded with rounded stones similar to yours. Too bad at the time i didn't pay more attention. Kinda into wild plants at the time.
