I see the pictures now. What ever it is, it sure is interesting. If it was intended to drink hot coffee out of, it seems to me that the way it's built that would be hard to do, the way that lip is around the edge.

maybe a nice bowl of soup - really not sure but its a pan of some sort wish i knew more info - not sure if the handle is supposed to be bent that way or what

This isn't a very good picture, but these are supposed to be Civil War era cups. The handles make sense to me, if you are heating food near a fire or on coals, it would be nice to have a handle that's easier to get off the coals without getting burned fingers, and a rag or bit of leather would make a tin handle only attached at the top, one that could be bent away from the cup a very handy idea. Besides yours, these are the only ones i could find.
