Easter weekend, I located a small pickett post on the "confederate" side of the Rappahannock River in Culpepper on a friends property, looks like these boys came under fire from the Union side (Fauquier). I think there was a cavalry patrol involved due to the clues of the relic's located. They are:

Horse shoe and Curry comb (that large square brass object), 52 sharps "drops" iron harness buckle and what may be a broken saber blade.

Two nice finds were a colonial copper (I think a Va half penny) and a soldiers wedding ring, there is still a small piece of gilt and some kind of inscription but I'm afraid to clean it more, due to the delicate condition, I don't want to break it.

Last but not least is an unusual bullet which was fired, you can see the lands and gooves, I'm thinking 50 cal from a sniper...what say you?

Just as a side note, these relics were dug with the Eagle spectrum I bought from TH forum members "Chuckers" from the classifieds...Thanks again Chuck, the ol eagle just tears 'em up!!!!!!

Sorry the pix aren't better, best I could do.

I have some specific interest in what I think you think is the "sniper's" bullet. Is it the long, skinny enfield on the bottom of the photo, and the single? My questions are, is it a .54 cal and does it have a solid or cavity in the base? I may have to put mine on this forum for you to compare also. The measurements on your sharps would be interesting to know if you are not positive about the .52, also, but don't say "they are the same size" as there were several sizes of sharps as well as the enfields.
I have been given several names for the .54 enfield, but can't find a match in T & T or M & M.

Otherwise: dang, guy. What a haul!!

The bullet measures 1 5/8th inches I don't have anything to measure the caliber but sizing it with one of the 52 sharps I found it is just a tad smaller, remember it was fired so it is distorted a bit, hollow cavity as you can tell in the photo.

Berdans sharpshooters were documented being in this area of Virgnia, I'm thinking a special round/special rifle????
