Hello all! I went down to Charleston SC yesterday with 9 fellow hunters to do some relic hunting. I had to wake up at 4am to get everything straight & be there by 9 but it was worth it! The first signal I dug was a flat button which I took as a very good sign. I continued the hunt & recovered this whole sword hanger! We were searching the site of a documented Confederate camp so the odds are that it is Confederate. I unearthed a lot of other neat relics at this site (900 acres) including some colonial era pieces. The site had a few homesteads, a lot of activity. I thought the 1858 lantern part was cool too. We ended the day at a different location on Edistow island that was a federal camp & homesite. I recovered a few flat buttons, piece of a pewter spoon a carved bullet (carbine?) & a handle that I'm not sure about. The handle is marked Hayden ---- & Co New York. Any insight would be appreciated. We were closing out the day with 10 minutes to go & I got a good signal right next to a fire ant hill. I almost didnt dig it but I'm sure glad I did! I picked the object up & was excited to see my very first shield nickel!!! It looks to be either 1882 or 83 & is in great shape. The sandy soil really preserved this one. A few minutes later a buddy yells "Seated dime!". He had only found 2 flat buttons all day but ended with an AU 1883 seated dime! It was a great hunt & everyone came away with something. A seated half dime was found, 1844 large cent in great shape. Eagle buttons, a heel plate, war of 1812 button etc. Thanks for looking & HH!

Thanks Jim! Boy I sure wish I could be in England with you guys next week! I can't wait to see what you find!

Congrats on the first!

With 9 others along side you were lucky to get the hanger but then again it looks like you guys had lots of room to stretch out

It was good meeting you and the others! I had fun and ended up with a flattened 2-piece flower button, a war of 1812 military button with an eagle on the raised backmark, and 2 50 cal roundballs! Love the sword hanger man. Good finds.

Sweet finds, must have been a fun trip. Congrats!

Nice to meet you too! I didn't realize at the time you were the Evan that posts on our club Facebook page. I didn't put 2 & 2 together when you showed me the pic of your lock. Hopefully we can come down again soon, it was a lot of fun.

You certainly were rewarded for getting up so early! I bet you'll remember this hunt for a long time. Thank you for letting us share your finds.

Yes it was! You and that tony guy really racked them up. I found 4 things but it was fun! That Tony found an 1853 seated liberty half dime, a heart heal plate, and more.

Some really nice finds Josh. Shield nickel and hook are first place.
