Anyone familiar with the P/D font serifs enough to tell if this is a 44-D or 44-P war nickel? I tried to mess with the image brightness/contrast in the one of the close-up photos to make it a little easier to distinguish the mint mark from the scratches. My guess is D?

I think it's a Philadelphia. If it was Denver, you'd most likely see the continuation of the 'D' in the lull of the scratch just under the major scratch before the secondary one. It's really hard to tell though, and it doesn't really matter either way except to appease curiosity.

Near the right bottom of the mark (About 4:30 on the clock if you divided a D mintmark) the stratch would not cover the mark if it were a D. As a P, ther is nothing in that spot, and true enough, there is nothing there. So I vote it is a "P".

Clearly someone has attempted to Henning my nic.
