Dandy (?) Button Question

Anyone know the purpose or explanation to the #1 stamp on the reverse side of this button ? I seem to recall that it might be a Dandy ... like others I've found but none of the others have a number stamped on the back. I also note the front of the button is hand carved/stamped ... instead of machine cut ... is that significant at all??

Maybe the button stamp "1" is a size or pattern mark.

Dandy buttons were made sans back mark or quality mark I think... so maybe thats all it means.

agreed, mostly likely a pattern, size type or both.
