It was a simple plan. I needed an advantage over the Explorer 2 with its diabolical, unnatural trash detection capabilities. Adewehe has figured out how to program Goliath to eliminate fishing sinkers (see our last post for the enormity of this problem for me)!
My daughter is nine years old. She came out with us to our metal detecting site, and was telling me she was bored. That when it came to me…the equalizer….I told her I would pay her one penny for every pop-top, can, or piece of trash she picked up in my hunting grid. It worked brilliantly! She earned about $1.75, and I found a ring, and many, many coins. Yipee! Eurkeka!
At the end of the hunt, we compared our goodies. Adewehe found a ring and some coins. I did the same. I didn’t win; however, I didn’t lose either. In hindsight, I would have pulled my daughter aside and asked her to keep the little arrangement our secret, but I didn’t. As soon as we were leaving the park, she tells Adewehe (her grandpa), “Mom owes me $1.75 because I picked up all the trash where she was hunting. Ask her about her ring, grandpa!” Adewehe’s eyebrows hit his hairline, his mouth dropped open, and he said, “You cheated!” To which I replied, “No I didn’t. If you can use a machine that can launch missiles, or find treasure at the earth's core, I can think “out of the box” to gain some equal ground with you.” My dad looked out car window, looked back at me, and then at his granddaughter, smiled, and to my surprise said, “Alright! That will work!” This can’t be good I thought, he conceded to easily.
Long story short (as if I am even capable), the next time we went out to hunt, I grabbed my gear, and invited my daughter to come along. She was eager to comply. I asked her if she was ready to earn some candy money. And without a two-week notice, or anything, she resigned her position with me. She said, “Yep! I am going to find as much trash as I can for MY grandpa!” I looked at her, and then my dad, and asked, “Why would you do that.” To which she replied, “Grandpa is going to pay me "4 cents" for each piece of trash I find for him.” Are you kidding me!!!! Good help is so hard to find. Sigh…….
See pics for finds since last post. The pic with the hand in the picture, and many rings is me (Iskuli). I found an interesting key. I found a lot of new coins, no silver. On the other hand, Goliath found 2 rosies, an indian head from 1896, a few rings, and over 200 new coins. I am looking for someone, who might know someone, who wouldn't mind taking out a Minelab......and I don't mean on a date!
QUESTION: I find coins (old and new), silver rings, bronze...where is the GOLD? I find a lot of nickels, I pick up pull tabs, but alas...no gold rings. It seems to me the location is good because of all of the silver rings I find. Any words of wisdom out there? Help!
