Today was my first time hunting with my new AT Pro, as well as my first time hunting an area near a civil war battle. Not to mention, my 3rd to last find of the day was my first CW bullet. A 3 ringer!! A lot of lead pieces were found as well as a few percussion caps and a severly rusted 9 volt battery. Wonder where that came from? :icon_scratch:

Since you are detecting at a civil war relics spot, that 9-volt battery very likely came from a Nautilus (brand) metal-detector. Those were manufactured in North Carolina, where you live, so of course they were very popular with relic-diggers in that state (because they also worked great and were reasonably priced). Nautilus detectors used two 9-volt batteries... and unlike nearly all other brands of detectors, the batteries were mounted on the OUTSIDE of the electronics-box. More than once, I've experienced a vine pulling one of the 9-volt batteries off my Nautilus detector. Fortunately I was able to find the battery on the ground among the dead leaves. Perhaps in your case, the digger wasn't so lucky.

Or maybe he changed the batteries and abandoned the old ones. I've also dug old rusty detector-size batteries in a hole where I was finding relics.
