From the land of the Bluenose.....day off and a few simple errands of which one was to get Otto safety inspected. Arose just after Marie left for work and made breakfast and while cutting my ruby red grapefruit I sliced my finger giving my grapefruit that extra redness. Man that hurt. Obviously knives should not be put in the hands of those not fully awake. Little did I know that this was a premonition of how the day would progress!
After some quick first aid I grabbed my water and land gear planning on hitting Dollar Lake for the day. First stop was to gas up Otto when disaster number #2 hit for the day as when I pulled into the gas station I hit the island and blew out the passenger side tire. My language right about then was not rated "GP." Otto limped from the pumps where I gave him new rubber after emptying the trunk and installing the donut!
With that changed I headed to my father-in-laws to get a new tire from the set stored there....he was not home so back to the gas station to top up Otto. $52 later he had his fill and I went inside to pay for the gas, reached in my pocket for my wallet.............shock! Disaster no#3. It wasn't there so I ran out to the car and searched...no wallet. Went to where I had changed the tire....no wallet. Went back inside the garage and asked if soemone had turned it in..........no wallet. After much tado and leaving all the papers for the car with the cashier she released me and I headed home in a near panic as there was over $600 in my wallet. Went in the house and yessss.....there was my wallet laying on the counter by the door as in my haste to go a digging hadn't put it in my pocket. Obviously when the Lord was passing out brains I thought he said trains and missed both!
Gave Bill another call but no answer so I drove up and luckily he was there and I loaded up a tire, returned to the gas station and paid my bill then got Otto repaired costing only $20.
Just made it on time for Otto's appointed and found that for $550 he would be legal. Paid the guy $20 for his time for looking at the car and listing what was needed for parts which I picked up as my Brother-in-law does all my work at a high price. Change headlight....case of beer. Change brake pads.....a case of beer. Replace engine.....case of beer.
At last I was on my way to the lake for a combo dig stopping along the way at a golf egg farm where I hunted for 10 minutes finding four. Man they sure give their offsprings funny names and they have unusual birthmarks too boot.
Twenty minutes later I was at the park and ready for some swishing.
Hit a few coins in close to the shore and then ventured out to deeper water at least til a rouge wave that was higher than my chest wadders deposited a few quarts of water inside. Disaster #4 Obviously one should never turn their back on in coming waves....a rookie mistake.
Retreated to Otto and emptied my wadders and grabbed my Freedom 3 and popped pennies along the shore line with moderate success.
After an hour of this I headed home and changed into dry clothes and headed out to another park concentrating on a trail along the lake with my new knee pads on that I had won on the Treasure Talk Forum.
This path coughed up a nice 1965 dime.
With luck running a tad on the dark side I stayed well away from the kloofs not tempting providence.
Sky was starting to cloud over so I took one last look at the view and motored home.
Take for the day was 70 coins @ $1.63 including the 1965 dime, 4 golf eggs, a tent peg and a shovel.
Rest of the day was great with an 86 on the ump exam and a lady's double hitter that went smoothly with no arguements and was over in an hour and 40 minutes.
