Dad joined me again today to finish of the area of interest around the Axe find. No joy so we went back to our grid search in the corner.

Not much to speak about (for 2 peoples effort):

2 & a little bit of Roman Bronze coins
1.5 Lead Tokens
1878 Farthing
Lum of Bronze Slag.

I will be declaring the Axe to the Finds Liason Officer this week, can't wait for the reaction.

I will keep at it until Harvest & then off to better grounds.

Just shows how lucky my Dad was when he walked over it going back to the car. If he hadn't done that we would have never searched that far out in the field.

DF, is this a ploughed field or pasture, if it's the later do you know if it's ever been ploughed, judging by you finds it's seen a lot of activity.

It was a ploughed field now its pasture for sheep. They have done a good job of keeping the grass down.

Nice finds Dug! Always interesting to see what you are pulling up in the UK. Thanks for the post and HH, Mike

Congrats on your finds and were there settlements in these fields at different stages of time.May be dump scatterings as most of your relics found in the feilds have settlement stlye rather than travellers lost items.

No settlements as such. Maybe a couple of farms some distance away. Its just off a major footpath which the Monks used to get to the Church from where they lived (& lots of other travellers). As I work my way down the hill, I will expect to get more finds on the old footpath.
The Roman Coins are nearly in every field I do, none of them settled but 1-2 miles from a major Roman Town.

My Dad who found it, had been praying that day.

This field has made me look more carefully at Google Earth & I have some exciting areas which I am looking forward to hitting in the harvest.
