Convinced my Dad to leave work early today & continue the search. As Sunday is forecast bad weather.

First run down Dad found a Iron Age (Celtic) Silver Unit. He's on a roll now. First one ever after 12 years of searching. He's catching me up. ;D

I need to research this one. I will update later as I have no idea what Cheftian it is. But it looks to date to 20BC - 60AD.

and some bits........

Still a bit sore, but with finds like Doug's I'll go with a broken ankle :-*

To put this into prosective.

I find 1 Celtic Silver every 4 years. If I'm Lucky :)

Just got this response from the Leading Expert:

"many thanks for this, it's a fine coin. As I'm sure you realize it's Cunobelin, with CVNO on the obverse on either side of the figure of Hercules, and on the reverse a rather puzzling figure with TASCIIOVA around. The reason it's puzzling is that it seems likely to be a copy of the classical image of Europa and a bull, except that the 'bull' looks more like a cat in the Celtic version.

The catalogue references are VA 2061 and 'Coins of England' no. 315, also nos. 1884-5 in the British Museum catalogue. We have 27 examples recorded here. Most of them come from the western parts of Cunobelin's territory, ie the Catuvellauni, rather than in the east around Colchester. The date is a little uncertain, as always, but I would guess somewhere around 20 AD can't be far out"

Re: DAY8 on the HUGE FIELD<<CELTIC SILVER-UPDATED>>

That is an awesome coin, nice condition and a big congrats to your Dad! One every 4 years? That means I'll have to pack in 4 years worth of hunting into 1 year, I think I can do it! I'll be back on the same field where I found the Roman next week, moving has been postponed for a week. Thanks for showing that beauty of a coin. HH, Mike
