Congrats on your finds. My wife's chains get knotted all the time. I usually put a stick pin in each hand, and start to separate it wherever I can. It takes a little patience (which she doesn't have !) Once you find that place where you can start to loosen it, your home free.
 

I have a lot of bracelets that were once knotted neckless chains.
 

Next time try toothpicks, my wife sells jewelry and I can't tell you how many chains I've had to untangle that way.

Nice save Clive!! Those religious medallions and chains will sell for more then melt. One thing I can never melt, be it silver or gold.
