Deep and shallow?

I am looking for a good metal detector that can detect up to 2-3' deep but is still fairly accurate with shallow gold nuggets or coins. Does anything exist? Also, a waterproof coil would be ideal. I don't do any beach or field hunting, so this is mainly for rocky desert and mountain terrain.

Ahh don't think that detector can go 2 to 3 feet as the OP is inquiring about If you seriously mean 2 to 3 feet, expect to pay around $10,000.00

I dug a tin (aluminum?) pie plate from two feet with my F-75 and it will detect small, low conductivity targets shallow. At two different sites the birdshot (field beside my house) and nichrome/tungsten filament wires from lightbulbs (old carnival site) will drive me batty. I have a horse-drawn cultivator I "found" at better than two feet in the All-Metal mode. Still sits in the yard behind my barn. About then I stopped using the All-Metal mode.


And you can't imagine the head scratching until I noticed the tiny black wires in the grass at that carnival site.

Seems like your best bet would be a good mid-range VLF and a top end PI, two separate machines might actually have what you need. ATX and SDC 2300 are PI machines that can go pretty deep and also find tiny stuff on the surface, but discrimination is very limited. ATX with deepseeker coil should be able to hit larger stuff really deep. Good luck

Also, if you have 10k laying around, the GPZ 7000 will pretty much go deeper than you will probably be able to dig without putting bracing in the hole...
