I had a great tone but no vdi. I only had my scoop. I was just wondering if anyone else had this problem or was I a target just deep? Ground balanced again and signal was still there. Just wanted to know.

Yup,

Do a forum search on your question. There are a few threads on this forum with the answer.
As a matter of fact this question was just asked and answered a few days ago.
The answer is also in the manual and also in the Garrett Tutorial videos on Garrett's website.

Here is the video from Garrett that says that it will still give an audio signal on a deep target but no VDI number. It is also written in the manual.

Look right around 8:48 into the video.
I would also suggest watching the whole video as it is very informative.

That happens every once in a while on a deep target...did you dig it?

Scoop would not go thru the shells they were real thick so I gave up now I afraid I missed a few good targets. But it will not happen again I will have a shovel next beach trip
