Deleon question

I have had my machine since April . Im still figuring out its quirks ,but finding lots of good stuff. I was in a park today and found a '58 wash.quarter at 8 in. It read a solid 95 ,and solid smear on silver coin ,but the tone was faint. I usually dig everything , setting disc on foil .today ,I decided to go max discrim. . i was still digging pennys right and left ,as they rang up a 95 . I noticed though a small smear on the zinc ,and silver coin was a full smear,and every time it was a penny .Is this normal? Why wont it disc out pennies?

I can't say all, but most detectors don't disc out COPPER pennies except at or near max disc (maybe), nor silver, but will zinc pennies. So your DeLeon is acting normally. I have several detectors that drop clad dimes at full disc., but still pick up silver and larger clad. The faint tone at 8" on a quarter is an indication that the target was fairly deep.
