I have been using my delta 4000 a lot and my brother and I decided to try some tests on it.

We buried a silver quarter at about 5 inches and the machine didnt make a sound. Not even a broken tone. We then took the silver quarter and in an air test the machine fixed on it till about 5 inches. Same with an indian head penny but about 3 inches.

Is this normal? How much stuff am I missing if it wont pick up a silver quarter at 5 inches?

what sensitivity level is it set for ?

mine does better than that.

I tried it at my normal 7 all the way to 12

should do better than that . humm

Check all your connections. Might be a bad coil.

GOT LOTS OF MINERALS IN YER SOIL?

after using my delta for most of the summer i only get about 3 inches at best in discrimnate mode with sensitivity cranked up.the soil even in illinois here which is a lot of sand and highly mineralized and the farther north you go in michigan the sandier it gets so thats about the best you can expect unless you start to hunt in all metal mode.which i dont think i'll ever get used to because of the tone.it reminds me of a thousand mosquitos trapped in my headphones.it drives me crazy!try it and let me know how that works for you
