I do not want to get too excited but I was hunting a wooded area in upper New York that is surrounded by rock walls.
This buckle is heavy brass and I think it is a military blanket roll buckle.
Am I right?
Other finds today was
1899 V Nickel
Best orange colour button with missing shank
What looks to be a Tombac button with shank
1926 wheatie
Gold plated promise ring
Unidentifiable copper coin. Very thin
I am interested in button dates as well as this possible blanket roll buckle. Could it be Civil War Era?

Nice finds!

Nice find. That object you think is a buckle reminds me of a buckle shield/cover for a harness. The buckle shield kept the horses tail from getting caught in the buckle, I believe. Not sure if size is right or not.. Congrats on the nice digs.

Yeap, Buckle shield or protector, post-CW.
Both buttons are pre-CW.
