did i just saw my pit light up?

after the operation awhile ago, i was walking home and we saw the pit light up, like a dim light. what does it mean? it happpened at night time

it could be a chemical..like phosphorus-which was used in horrible bombs in ww2 but it it is still covered in oil..that would not be the case....unless its leaching out from the upper sides of the pit..use caution.
