Difference between the Elite and gt

Alright, maybe it has been asked before, but what exactly is the difference between the Elite and the GT?
Is it ground balance?
One thing is that i don't think the Elite has iron mask.........The ground balance is the same.................==Jim

No, the Elite will eliminate all iron.
Well i had the first Sovereign made and now the ..GT.. and they are the only two that had a iron mask switch on to turn the iron mask on or off............I have the owners manual to the Elite and do not see any thing in it about iron mask??????????????==Jim==

It starts rejecting iron as soon as you go from all metal to discriminate mode. I run mine at the minimum level then if you go over small iron like a nail, the threshold goes silent. Then there's a short pause to recover, which is part of the reason Minelab people need to go slow.

I use the Elite and you are right. I have heard that the Sovereign is supposed to pick good targets from under or near iron but I don't believe that to be the case with my Elite. It nulls out over iron and takes a little while to recover. You have to go slow to work with that happening. I am not sure that I have ever pulled a good target from under iron. I believe that a small coil with the Sovereign, just like any other machine, is a must for trashy areas. I have the 8 inch coil as one of my coils and it is really just under 8 inches. I am trying to find a deal on a 5 inch coil. When I say deal, I mean cheap. I have been lucky to find good deals when I am patient so I am trying to wait for a good deal on EBAY or elsewhere. I use the 15 inch WOT coil at times and it is really deep but again the iron thing comes into play. My other coils are the 10 and the 8 inch mentioned above.

I have enjoyed the Sovereign so far. The only thing I miss when using it is the ability to get a reading on the approximate depth of the target. Other than that, I have no problems saying that it is probably the best and deepest VLF detector I have ever used. I use a Garrett PI Infiniuim for water hunting and it is remarkably deep also.

Good Luck to all.

All the Sovs have iron mask, its just that the first model and the GT have a toggle switch that allows you to disable it.
The GT has two all metal modes on it. One is the one that is on all the other Sovs which is your pinpoint mode which is very tight in the detection window. The second is the tracking and fixed all metal mode. This one performs more like the discrim mode having a wider detection window but of course all metal and in this one the sens is really enhanced. I was suprised when I first used it, it will hit smaller gold than in pinpoint.
There is also the ability to hunt without a threshold (silent search) in disc.
Something else that doesnt get mentioned often is that the control box is solid blue through the plastic and not painted like the GT. So when the GT gets scratched up it stays blue ;D
So there are several changes, to me the most important being the newer all metal mode. Now if I suspect a chain in nearby(like when I am beach hunting and find a pendant in disc mode) I can switch to this mode and improve my odds of finding the chain, if its there ;D
Ive had all the Sovs except the Elite and without a doubt the GT is the best Sov to date. When I got mine I was also suprised how long the newer nimh batteries last compared to the older nicad packs on the black boxed Sovs.
Keep the sens low, real low and see how deep the detector goes and also you will benefit from a quicker resetting threshold.
