A few days ago a friend and I went in search of a rumored Union camp in my home town. He got the lead and I just happened to know the property owners, fortunately, so it was a good bit of team-work. After talking to others with ties to the property once we got there, we figure that the main camp is actually on the next property over and owned by people who do not allow "interlopers" so to speak. No chance of digging there, or even looking around. However we did find a few scattered relics on adjoining properties that we scored permission on while there. A full day of searching netted me 5 69 caliber drops (3 of which I gifted to the different property owners), a canteen spout, a decent brass buckle (not exactly the US plate or buckle I was hoping for), some camp lead, a small round ball, a few other odds and ends, and a very cool brass cattle ear tag. The tag was still attached to the chain, which took some time to dig up. Not a bad lot of relics but it took ALL day swinging my 13 inch coil on the etrac to get them. My buddy didn't do quite as well but we figure we have a chance on finding more goodies on adjacent property in the future. On our way out we saw someone looking through the tree line of a field we started on. We could see something white out there but until we stopped we weren't sure what it was. Turned out to be a big old Albino gobbler turkey strutting around with a bunch of hens. The picture isn't the best but still was cool to see.
My dime trifecta came from a short hunt yesterday. The power went out in my neighborhood, which put an end to my work in the shop for the day, so....OF COURSE I went hunting. I meandered around a bit looking for a spot and finally ended up at the local "hunted out" park that is usually my go to spot when I don't have a new place to go. Baseball practice had the parking lot full on one side of the park so I headed to the other. My first signal sounded like a deep silver but I had to leave it twice to make way for Frisbee golfers (GRRRR!). When I finally relocated it the 3rd time and dug it, it did turn out to be silver and wasn't a Rosie or Merc. Too dirty to know for sure but I had a feeling it was seated .... no way was I wiping it off. Into the pill bottle it went. I hoped for 1 more silver and headed for a super, super trashy area that no one bothers to hunt. Signals are crazy everywhere in this spot. I went super slow and sure enough, heard the faint squeak of silver under all the junk. That plug yielded a nice merc. A little lower on the hill and I heard that sweet sound again. Dug the plug and there was good old Roosevelt staring up at me. Dang, a 3 silver day in about an hour?!!! Lucky day so of course I headed to the Casino for my remaining 30 minutes of free time....hit my favorite machine for a little over $300! Wahoo!! (of course I'm still down a grand or two over the course of the past few years but Hey Jack, $300 makes a nice dent in that). The 1882 Seated has an H scratched into the back. No big deal though, it's a fairly worn coin with some other old surface scratches anyway. This is my first seated coin from that park. though, so I'm pleased with it. And I can't say I've ever seen a Rosie with a hole drilled through it, plenty of older coins that way but odd to see a Rosie that way.
The 1917D wheatie came from a sidewalk tear out. Nothing else on that hunt but a crusty memorial.
HH to all!!

We didnt find the mother lode, but it was still a good time seeing the nice scenery and digging a few holes. The albino turkey pic made me think of the male five lined skink with the blue tail i saw earlier that day, but of course i forgot the memory card in my camera and couldnt take any pics

Juvenile 5 liners all have a blue tail but usually grow out of it as adults. Cool finds too!

I love that hat trick, three different dimes on the same hunt, nice!

Nice set of dimes! Seems you need to go back and find a barber... :occasion14:
