dirty coffee can of marbles

I found a dirty coffee can of marbles in an old house. Besides the dirt in the can I think a mouse or two made a nest in it. A few of them have some bad spots where they set against each other. A couple have chips. Do I just toss those? I really do not know anything about marbles so any advice on which ones to keep or toss would be appreciated. I just washed them off with soapy water. I do not collect them so my knowledge is zero. The house is being torn down so I thought it would be a shame to leave them in it.

Hello NE/Kathy!

That's a nice group of old marbles from the late 1800s or turn of the century up to the 1940s or 50s. Don't toss the chipped ones yet, a chip devalues the marble but I've seen chipped marbles still sell for good money. It all depends on rarity and style. I see an old German handmade in there too!

Can you take more pics of them in a line and turn them a few times? About five at a time. I think I see a nice Akro. And some Benningtons. Not a lot of monetary value but still cool. Just remember I am new; you are helping my education!

I agree, we can ID most or all of them I think if you are interested. I do see an Akro Popeye and I think maybe a lemonade shooter and some others that rate a second look.

Thanks for the vote of confidence; but you go ahead and ID! I still get too many of my own wrong and I don't want to confuse someone else (I'll save that for myself!) OK, I fess up, the other reason is I can only ID a handful!!!

I can ID a lot of these, but let's put them in the same order in both pics, and when you take the picture try to get each seam in the picture. The seam on a marble is where the ribbon starts or ends. The first green marble in the first picture shows the seam really well. That shows the construction of the marble and tells me it was made by Peltier. Some marbles don't have seams like the clay ones and some swirls. Those can be IDed by other traits though.
